I'm running because our kids deserve a school board that has been in the room with them.

Why I'm running.

Rev. Theodore Aldridge taught 28 years in Duval County schools before he started Saint Mark AME's after-school program. He knows the difference between a child who can't read because nobody taught them and a child who can't read because they're hungry. He's running for the school board because both kinds of children deserve a board member who's actually been in the room with them.

The people lifting this campaign up.

Not senators. Not party committees. The people who've lived next door, taught beside me, prayed beside me, and raised kids with me.

“Theo taught alongside me at Northwestern for 14 years. He stayed after the bell every single day. He didn't go home until every kid who needed a ride had one.”

— Linda Whitfield
Sherwood Forest · Retired Duval teacher

“My son couldn't read in third grade. Rev. Aldridge's after-school program at Saint Mark got him on grade level in nine months. He's at FAMU now.”

— Marcus Stallworth
Murray Hill · Father of three

“Theodore Aldridge has been showing up at the school board for fifteen years. Public comment, every month. He's earned this seat the long way.”

— Pastor Yvonne Beasley
Springfield · First Baptist Springfield

“He knows how the breakfast program actually works because he's served it. That's not something the other candidates can say.”

— Carla Jefferson
Arlington · Cafeteria manager, Englewood Elementary

“My kids had him for civics. They still quote him at dinner. That's the kind of teacher you elect to a school board.”

— James 'JJ' Howard
Northside · Local 1124 plumber

“Reverend Aldridge prays for those kids by name every Sunday. He knows what's going on in their houses. He'll know what's going on in their schools.”

— Sister Beverly Coles
Saint Mark AME · Sunday School director

“I've driven for every school board member in District 3 since '04. Theo's the only one who ever asked me what I see on the route.”

— Devon Maguire
Riverside · DCPS bus driver, 22 years

“He was my AP English teacher. He wrote me a recommendation letter that got me a full ride. He doesn't forget kids.”

— Aaliyah Brooks
5 Points · UNF senior

Plainspoken priorities.

No white papers. No jargon. Three things I will work on from day one.

Priority #1

Universal free breakfast and lunch

Duval has the funding; what it lacks is the will. Rev. Aldridge will bring the will.

Priority #2

Books on shelves, librarians in libraries

Duval lost 12 librarian positions last year. Reverse it.

Priority #3

Teacher pay you can live on

Starting pay in Duval is below the federal poverty line for a family of four. That's a board accountability problem.

Three ways to help.
